Getting Help With My Vision

One day when I was at work, I realized that I was having a hard time making out the memos and texts that were right in front of me. Instead of ignoring the issue, I decided to meet with an eye doctor. Although I was sure that the problem was nothing or temporary, the doctor explained to me that I suffered from a degenerative eye disease. I was devastated, but I knew that I needed to press on. It has been a rough few years, but I have learned a lot about the journey. Check out this blog for information and motivation about eye care challenges.

Contact Lens Care You May Be Doing Wrong

If you wear contact lenses, there's a good chance you've done something you shouldn't have; for example, many people sleep in their lenses, overwear their lenses, or wear lenses that aren't even the right prescription. If you wear contact lenses, you need to be sure you are caring and wearing your lenses properly. If you aren't, you may be causing eye issues or worsening your vision. Read on for a few things you may be doing wrong and what you need to do to correct it.

Not Cleaning Your Lenses

It can be very easy to fall into a routine of just taking out your lenses and putting them back into your lens case without cleaning them at all. If you aren't removing the solution from the case and re-using the same solution over and over again, your contact lens case is probably full of bacteria that you are then putting directly into your eye. If this is the case, you are opening yourself up to all types of eye infections and other eye issues. Make sure you are cleaning your contact lenses before you put them into your eyes and after you take them out. You also need to clean your contact lens case and replace the solution in the case each time that you store your lenses.

Wearing Your Lenses From Wake To Sleep

If you are putting in your lenses when you wake up in the morning and not taking them out until you go to sleep at night, you may be over-wearing your lenses. If you over-wear your lenses, you may not be getting enough oxygen to your eyes and it can lead to issues such as dry eyes, eye infections, and even stress on your vision. You may need to take your contact lenses out at some point during the day to allow oxygen to get to your eyes and give your eyes a break.

Wearing Damaged Lenses

This should be a no-brainer, but you have probably worn your lenses that are worn out or damaged. If your lens has a tear, rip, hole, or another type of damage, then you need to replace them. If your contact lenses appear to be stretched or worn thin, it's time to change them to new ones. Wearing damaged lenses could be damaging your vision.

These are just a few of the things you may be doing wrong as a contact lens wearer. Don't fall into these bad habits. Take care of your eyes and your vision. Talk to your optometrist about other tips to care and wear your contact lenses properly.
