Getting Help With My Vision

One day when I was at work, I realized that I was having a hard time making out the memos and texts that were right in front of me. Instead of ignoring the issue, I decided to meet with an eye doctor. Although I was sure that the problem was nothing or temporary, the doctor explained to me that I suffered from a degenerative eye disease. I was devastated, but I knew that I needed to press on. It has been a rough few years, but I have learned a lot about the journey. Check out this blog for information and motivation about eye care challenges.

How To Protect Your Eyes From Blue Light

If you spend a lot of time on the computer every day, the blue light that it emits can damage your vision. However, It's not just the computer that can cause damage to your eyes but also smartphones and tablets that emit blue light. Whenever you have to be in close proximity to this blue light for a prolonged period of time, it can affect your vision. Blue light by itself is not necessarily bad because it does elevate your mood and alertness, and it also helps regulate the body's sleep cycle. However, overexposure to it can have negative effects.

Nourish Your Eyes From Within

The macula absorbs light that enters the eyes. It is a thin layer that rests directly in the center of the eye. The macula is made up of carotenoids. The amount of carotenoids in the macula can be enhanced with the right foods. This is why carrots are so beneficial to eye health — because they contain a lot of carotenoids.

Use Computer Glasses

Taking breaks from your computer can help to reduce eye strain. However, your eyes may be very sensitive, in which case this will not be enough. You may also have no alternative but to spend long hours working on the computer. If this is the case, you should consider investing in a pair of computer glasses. These glasses are yellow tinted and block harmful blue light, which helps to reduce digital eyestrain. In addition to tint, consider getting glasses that have an anti-glare lens. This anti-glare coating provides you with added protection because it shields your eyes from blue reflections that sometimes occur on the sides of your lens.

Blue Light Filter Screens

With the awareness of the dangers of blue light growing, there are now many options for reducing the amount of blue light that comes off devices. You can apply special screens to your laptops, smartphones, and tablets. Screen filters tend to be very inexpensive, and they do work to absorb a lot of the light that is emanating from digital devices. They are a great option for reducing eyestrain.

Your eyes are some of your most important assets, so you should try to protect them as much as possible. This means that you should reduce eyestrain whenever possible. Reducing the amount of blue light that gets into your eye is not difficult. You simply have to make a conscious effort to do so. You should also remember that eye health begins inside the body, so make sure that you eat right. Contact a local ophthalmology center to learn more.
